Selection of the Study Abroad Participants Things to do after being selected
|
Bogazici University encourages its students to study abroad for a semester. Experiencing another culture for a period of time strengthens the character and broadens the mind. Boğaziçi University has exchange partnerships with quite a number of colleges and universities in U.S.A., Canada, Australia, Europe, China and Japan. Please observe our Partners’ List. Bogazici University undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply to our study abroad programs. However, only a limited number of students can take part in this program every year, because the selection process to these programs is quite competative. §
A minimum GPA of 2.50. §
Undergraduate students must have completed 2 semesters at Boğaziçi University at the time of application. §
It can not be possible for students to study abroad during their last semester at Boğaziçi University. You need to fill out the application form, and also need the following : §
A recent photograph §
Statement of Purpose §
Transcript ( Student Copy) §
For universities where the language of education is in German, French, Spanish, and Italian etc. the minimum requirement is one of the following: o
Being a graduate of a high school teaching in that language (A copy of the diploma or statement from the High School). o
Having successfully completed a minimum of four semesters of the language courses at Boğaziçi University. o
Providing proof of advanced knowledge of the language acquired from institutes like the French Cultural Institute, Goethe Institute, Italian Cultural Institute, Cervantes Institute.
Please note the following when you are preparing your application: §
All exchanges are for one semester. In case a student wishes to extend her/his stay then it is up to them to incur all the generated expenses. §
Please study the institutions you are listing in your preferences by visiting their websites. Please visit our Partners’ List. §
Check the brochures, information sheets etc. available in our Office. §
Please check the course schedules of the institutions of your preferences, and make sure that course offerings fit your schedule. §
If in case you are nominated for an institution, you will be given a week to make your final decision whereby you will have to sign a binding contract. §
Students from the waiting list will be nominated in place of those who do not sign their contract. III. SELECTION OF THE STUDY ABROAD PARTICIPANTS Evaluation of the students are based on the following

Language Evaluation Study Abroad Participants are selected by a Commission constituted of academicians from each faculty. IV. THINGS TO DO AFTER BEING SELECTED The Exchange Commission meeting results are posted on the Announcements section of the web-site. If you have been nominated as a candidate for the program, then you will need to do the following: 1. Sign the contract to confirm that you will participate in the program. 2. Complete the Application Form of the relevant university and be sure to learn the application deadline. If the university you are chosen for is in the USA or Canada, please start preparing for a financial document indicating that either you, your family or someone who knows you shall be sponsoring you with an amount of approximately $7000. Detailed information may be found on each school's application form. 3. Visit your Academic Advisor and get a confirmation about the courses you may take at the partner instituiton. For those attending ERASMUS PROGRAM a document called a "learning agreement" must be signed by you, your departmental Erasmus Coordinator and the University and their counter parts in the partner institution about your course selections. 4. Fill in the Application Form. In case you need any help, please do not hesistate to consult our Office. 5. After you complete the Application Form, kindly leave
a photocopy to the Office of International Relations and send it to the relevant university. 6. Once you get an official letter of acceptance from the university, you will get the necessary documents for your visa application. For schools in the USA or Canada, in case you were not required to provide a Financial Statement of $7000, keep in mind that you shall be required to provide such statement in order to get your visa. 7. Go to your Faculty and turn in a petition indicating your reasons for absence (süreye sayılarak dönem izni) in your exchange study period. 8. Make sure that you pay your tuition and registration fees to Boğaziçi University before you leave. 9. If you are staying in any of the Bogaziçi University Dormitories, please contact "Yurtlar Müdürlügü" for information about reserving your space while abroad. 10. Please drop by the Office of International Relations and let us know of the exact dates of your departure and arrival.
