APPLICANTS FOR A “SPECIAL STUDENT” STATUS |

Special students at Boğaziçi University may pursue a certain program, under a determined set of conditions. Special students are non-degree students who generally apply for a single semester’s work. At the end of their stay, upon their request, they may receive a transcript of their academic records. Applications are reviewed by the departments and if approved the registration process follows. Students with "special student" status may not transfer their grades and credits to Boğaziçi University, but they may to their home institutions. In order to be eligible, applicants must: § Not have been dismissed from a University of Institute of Higher Education. § Be currently enrolled in a University or Institute of Higher Education, and his/her academic background must be of a standard suitable for the courses she/he wishes to attend.

Undergraduate and graduate students must provide the following information required by BU: 1. Application Form (A-Undergraduate, B-Graduate) Application forms must be completed in full and signed by the student. Original, fax, or photocopies will be accepted. Please contact our office if you need additional information.
2. Tuition Fee The Special Student fee for one semester is (Net Free of all Bank Transfer Charges at Both Ends): 2500 US Dollars for Turkish Citizens 3000 US Dollars for Other Nationalities
3. Academic Records A copy of an official transcript in English or translated into English.
4. For Non-native English speakers Non-native speakers of English should provide proof of English proficiency with the below mentioned criteria: a- A minimum score of 550 on the paper-based or 213 on the computer-based or 79-80 on the internet-based TOEFL test, along with a minimum TWE score of 4.5. This test is offered several times a year in many countries. Scores are valid for two years. b- A minimum score of 7 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System). This test is administered by the British Council and scores are valid for two years.
5. Statement of Purpose A short statement of no more than 300 words in support of the application, telling why you would like to attend Boğaziçi University.
6. Letter of Recommendation A letter of recommendation from one of the instructor or advisor.
7. Learning Agreement List of courses you would like to attend at Bogazici University
Once the special student application form are arrives to the Office of International Relations, the following procedures take place: 1. The application is reviewed by the Office. If a document is not valid or incomplete, the home institution will be notified immediately. 2. If the application is complete, the relevant documents are sent to the requested department(s) for approval. 3. Once approved by the department(s), a letter of admission will be sent to the applicant. 4. Applications are not considered complete until they the admission material.
Before leaving for Turkey, exchange students should pick their letters of acceptance from their home institution offices and obtain a multi-entry student visa from the nearest Turkish consulate.
The Office of International Programs will help provide the necessary forms and documents. * Students should bring no less than 15 photographs with them for other purposes as well.
The Office of International Relations is responsible for the registration of all the exchange students upon their arrival. The Office provides a series of orientations and will be your contact for any questions related to visa matters and regulations.
The Office will guide students to the appropriate academic advisors, who help them select courses relevant to their study program. There is no pre-registration process for exchange students and they may register for classes upon their arrival to BU. Please check the Academic Calendar below.
Due to timetabling and scheduling changes, we can not guarantee that a student will be able to register for all desired courses. We advise students to talk to their home institute advisors before departure, and to bring with them a list of courses which have been approved by them.

For the updated Dormitory fees kindly click the Superdorm Page. Meals are not included in the dormitory fee, and may cost $5 to $10 a day. A single meal at the student dining hall costs $2.
