Transfer to Undergraduate Degree Programs

About the Office of International Relations

The Office of International Relations provides basic information about deadlines for application and the application materials required. Once the student has been accepted to the program, the Office guides students through the procedures to obtain the Student Residence Permit from the Ministry of the Interior, General Directorate of Migration Services, and answers questions about visa status. The Office does not advise on academic matters.

    Eligibility for Transfer

    • Transfer candidates are required to have been enrolled at a university for at least two consecutive semesters prior to their application.
    • Transferring for the last two semesters of the undergraduate program at Boğaziçi University is not accepted.
    • Transferring to graduate programs is not applicable. 

    Departments that accept Transfer Students

    You may apply to any department at Boğaziçi University that has a quota open for Transfer Students. If the department to which you would like to apply has a quota for Transfer Students for the semesters you would like to attend the University, then you can apply to that department during the application period with your Official Transcripts, Standardized Test Score, and English Proficiency Test Score, as explained below.

    The quota system

    Each department has a quota, or the number of places, that it can offer to transfer students. The number of places varies according to the department. Please visit the External Transfer Applications and Internal Transfer Applications web pages to learn about the quota for each department.

    Standardized test score requirements:

    • SAT: Each department may set its own requirement. 
    • English proficiency exam: See options below
    • GPA: The minimum GPA for application to the University is 2.5, but each department sets its own requirement. You can learn about the minimum GPA requirements of individual departments and other information, from their web pages: University Departments and Schools.

    Subject competency exam

    If you are a transfer candidate whose standardized test scores and GPA requirements meet the minimum requirements of the University, then you will be required to take a Subject Competency Exam and have an interview with the department to which you have applied.

    5. High school diploma
     

    Candidates who have completed high school education in a school abroad are required to obtain a certificate of equivalence for registration to the university.

    6. Application Fee Receipt

    A separate application fee is required by each program to which you apply. The application fee is non-refundable. Please make sure that you meet all of the requirements for the department to which you are applying and that the department has a quota for Transfer Students before paying the application fee(s). The application fee must be paid in person or by bank wire. The University does not accept credit cards or payments by third parties like PayPal.

    Proof of Language Proficiency

    The medium of instruction at Boğaziçi University is English. All applicants must submit documentation proving proficiency in English. The Boğaziçi University Senate recognizes the results from a number of standardized tests for this purpose:

    The BUEPT test is the only Language Proficiency Test offered by Boğaziçi University. The TOEFL and the IELTS are given in test centers around the world.
